Intensified Algebra: Interventions for Helping Students Over the Basic Algebra Threshold

The focus of this workshop was on challenges students face with topics like rational number, proportionality, and with other areas of the math curriculum that serve as the foundations of algebraic thinking and reasoning. The workshop considered interventions that can be used to improve student outcomes. These included specific materials, assessment tools and technologies that support students and teachers in mastering important content and getting over the threshold of basic algebra.

The session was facilitated by Dr. James W. Pellegrino. Dr. Pellegrino is Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Co-Director of UIC’s Learning Sciences Research Institute (LSRI).
