Improving the Achievement of Children with Disabilities under NCLB Act

This program provides technical assistance and disseminates information that supports states and local entities in building capacity to improve early intervention, education, transitional services, and results for children with disabilities and their families. The program also supports efforts to identify and overcome systemic barriers to improving these services.

Recreation Programs

This program provides individuals with disabilities inclusive recreational activities and experiences that can be expected to aid them in their employment, mobility, socialization, independence, and community integration. Projects must maintain, at a minimum, the same level of services over a three-year project period and assure that the service program awarded will be continued after the federal assistance ends.

This program is designed to ensure that parents of children with disabilities receive training and information to help them improve educational outcomes for their children. Awards are made for parent information centers, community parent centers, and for technical assistance to such centers.

Combination Priority for Personnel Preparation

This program is designed (1) to help address state-identified needs for qualified personnel in special education and related services, early intervention, and regular education to work with children with disabilities and (2) to ensure that these personnel have the necessary skills and knowledge. Required skills and knowledge must be derived from practices that, first, have been determined through research and experience to be successful and, second, are needed to serve these children.
