Strategies for recasting large high schools as a set of small learning communities include: (1) establishing "houses," career academies, magnet programs, and other "schools within a school"; (2) instituting block scheduling; (3) developing personal adult advocates, teacher-advisory systems, and other mentoring strategies; (4) reducing teaching loads; or (5) using other innovations to create a more personal experience for students. |
